"Morocco has always considered that the holding elections is the most appropriate solution to the institutional crisis" in Libya, said Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, stressing that these elections "should be the starting point for a new phase in this brotherly country, a stage based on stability, legitimacy and responsiveness to the requirements of the Libyan people".

Morocco, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, "continuously supports the efforts of the United Nations to resolve the Libyan institutional crisis" that the country has been suffering from for years, Bourita said during a joint press conference with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) Abdoulaye Bathily following their talks in Rabat on Thursday.

"The Kingdom of Morocco reiterates to Mr. Bathily its support for all his relevant efforts, in accordance with a calm approach based on trust and on helping Libyans themselves to find a solution to their problems," Bourita added, noting that "the credibility and confidence that Bathily enjoys among all Libyan parties is the best proof that the approach of listening he adopts and bringing views closer to the horizon of holding presidential and legislative elections will solve this institutional crisis."

"Today, there is a legal ground thanks to the meetings that took place in the city of Bouznika, which culminated in the issuance of electoral laws that did not exist when the elections were announced on December 24, 2021," he said, noting that "this ground, even if it is not ideal, is the best that can be reached to hold these electoral benefits."
