The Interior Ministry for Libya's Government of National Unity said that members of the Al-Assah border security sector continue to carry out tasks to secure the Libyan-Tunisian border and combating illegal migration.

The ministry indicated in a statement that securing the borders comes in implementation of the security plan issued by the Ministry of Interior on combating illegal immigration and smuggling.

On September 6, Interior Minister-designate Imad Trabelsi announced the installation of day and night surveillance cameras and the deployment of troops along the border with Tunisia, as part of the ministry's plan to deal with the issue of illegal migration.

These security arrangements came after the migrant crisis in Tunisia, where Trabelsi said at the time that Libya's border with Tunisia was "permanently closed to smuggling", but that some migrant flows come from Tunisia to Libya on foot.
