France welcomed the extension of the mandate of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) on Wednesday, praising the consensus of the UN Security Council on this issue.
The French embassy in Libya posted on X: "We welcome the unity of the Security Council in support of Libya. The mission's work is crucial to supporting Libya's political transition."
On Monday, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution "unanimously" on extending the mission's mandate for one year, until October 31, 2024.
UNSCR 2702 urged Libya's political institutions and key stakeholders to resolve outstanding political contentious issues related to the elections as soon as possible.
