59 migrants arrived at the Italian port of Lampedusa on Tuesday from Libya's western coast, the first arrival after a days-long hiatus due to bad weather.

The Italian news agency ANSA reported that the migrants set off on an eight-meter boat from the port of Zuwara, adding that they were of Egyptian, Syrian, Palestinian and Pakistani nationalities.

According to the Italian news agency, Egyptian migrants paid the equivalent of 160,000 Egyptian pounds to cross from Libya to Italy, while Syrian migrants paid four thousand euros for the crossing.

Data from the Italian Ministry of the Interior showed a significant increase in the number of migrants coming from Libya during 2023, saying about 141,000 migrants arrived in southern Italy as of October 12, compared to 77,000 migrants during the same period last year, and 50,000 migrants in 2021.
