The military prosecutor for the General Command, Faraj al-Sousaa, announced that former Government of National Accord Defense Minister Mahdi al-Barghathi suffered "severe and serious injuries" during confrontations with security forces to which he refused to surrender last Friday.

The military prosecutor said during a press conference on Friday that a convoy armed with light and medium weapons consisting of "40 terrorists" led by al-Barghathi infiltrated Benghazi and when a military police patrol demanded he surrender himself, he and the groups accompanying him refused and dealt with the patrol with weapons.

He added that the patrol requested the support of the security and military services, explaining that the confrontation caused al-Barghathi to suffer "severe and serious injuries, as well as a number of his companions," in addition to "the martyrdom and injury of a number of soldiers from the army and security services."
