Internet service returned to the city of Benghazi on Friday after eight days of outages.

Citizens contacted by Alwasat saying their internet service was restored on Friday, three days after telecommunications service were restored.

The communications and internet networks were cut off from the city when armed clashes broke out in the Salmani area between forces belonging to the General Command and those loyal to former Government of National Accord Defense Minister Mahdi al-Barghathi.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior in the government appointed by the House of Representatives, Faraj Qaim, accused a "terrorist cell" of being behind the interruption of communications. Saying they entered Benghazi in an "illegal way" and carried out "acts of sabotage and cutting communications by cutting fiber optic cables in several places in the city."
