The General Command's Information Office said on Thursday evening that Marshal Khalifa Haftar met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu in the Russian capital, Moscow.

The office did not publish any photos or details about the meeting which took place on Haftar's third day in Russia.

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in turn, confirmed the meeting between Putin and Haftar, telling Sputnik: "Yes, in fact there was such a meeting with General Haftar today, and the situation in Libya and the region as a whole was discussed."

On Tuesday, Haftar and his accompanying delegation visited the Moscow Mosque with Russian Deputy Defense Minister Yunus Bey Yevkurov, at the invitation of the head of the Russian Ifta Council.

The head of the Russian Ifta Council offered Haftar and the Libyan people his sincere condolences for the victims of Storm Daniel that struck eastern Libya on September 10.

Haftar is being accompanied during the visit by the director of his office and member of the 5+5 Joint Military Commission, Lieutenant General Khairi Tamimi, Chief of Staff of Security Units Brigadier General Khaled Haftar, 166 Brigade Commander Colonel Ayoub Boussif and Colonel Bassem Al-Buaishi.
