A shipment of US aid arrived at Benina International Airport in Benghazi on Wednesday to support relief efforts from the floods that left thousands dead, wounded, missing and displaced in several areas of eastern Libya last week.
The US Embassy in Libya said in a statement: "The United States, through the U.S. Agency for International Development, has just delivered vital supplies to Benghazi in support of flood relief efforts in Libya."
"These supplies from our warehouse in Dubai contain blankets, personal hygiene kits, plastic sheeting, shelter equipment and water containers to be distributed to flood-affected communities in response to their most urgent needs," it added.
The United States has pledged $12 million to support those affected by floods in eastern Libya, including $11 million announced by President Joe Biden on Monday and $1 million announced by USAID Administrator Samantha Power on Wednesday.
U.S. funds will be allocated to local and international organizations to provide urgent humanitarian needs to those affected by floods in eastern Libya, as part of international support and solidarity with the authorities in Libya to address the disaster.
