Turkey announces it has sent a medical rescue team to eastern Libya

Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca announced on Monday the dispatch of a search, rescue and medical intervention team to eastern Libya to help cope with the effects of the Storm Daniel disaster.

The minister said on his X account: "We are sending a team and equipment to the flood area, which has affected thousands of people in Libya."

He added: "A national search, rescue and intervention team consisting of 11 personnel will set off tonight, and we convey to the Libyan people our wishes for safety."

The cities of eastern Libya witnessed a humanitarian catastrophe as a result of Storm Daniel, with at least hundreds dead, thousands displaced, and entire areas flooded. 

The entire city of Susa was submerged under water and Derna was declared a "disaster area". Water also flooded the cities of Bayda, Al-Marj, Tobruk, Taknis and Al-Bayyadah.
