Libyan Presidential Council leader Mohamed Menfi called for the formation of subcommittees from all sides, to provide aid to those affected by the floods in the eastern region, caused by Storm Daniel.

This came during his attendance at the emergency Government of National Unity cabinet meeting on Monday, accompanied by Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dabaiba, which was devoted to discussing the repercussions of the storm in Eastern Libya, according to a statement by the council's media office.

Menfi extended his condolences to the families of the victims who died in Al-Marj, Al-Jabal Al-Akhdar, Derna, and the surrounding areas, wishing the return and safety of the missing who were cut off from contact since last night.

He directed all ministries and responsible authorities to take immediate action, provide all kinds of support necessary to get out of the crisis, communicate with the afflicted municipalities and facilitate the exit of stranded people. He also called for aid funds from the Ministry of Local Government to be handed over to the municipalities directly affected.

According to a preliminary toll, at least 150 people have been killed in the floods.
