The Attorney General's Office announced on Saturday, the imprisonment of a Libyan citizen and eight foreign nationals pending investigations into the smuggling 100,000 liters of diesel fuel to a transport ship anchored off the coast of the city of Zuwara.

The office said in a statement that the Deputy Anti-Corruption Prosecutor, within the jurisdiction of the Tripoli Court of Appeal, investigated the fuel smuggling incident based on a report from a judicial police officer and discovered an organized ring.

The statement added that the investigator went to the location of the ship and discovered that it was being used to smuggle fuel for the purpose of achieving illegal material gains. He also identified the owner, the supplier of stolen fuel and the quantities received.

The Attorney General's Office indicated that those involved in organizing the act were arrested "red-handed" in the commission of the crime.

An interrogation of the Libyan and eight foreign nationals resulted in confessions.
