Bathily briefs Dabaiba on results of his recent meetings with political parties

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, briefed interim Government of National Unity (GNU) Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dabaiba on the results of his meetings with various political parties during his recent tour, during which he stressed the need to create the appropriate conditions for holding elections as soon as possible.

This came during a meeting between the two parties at the Prime Minister's Office in Tripoli on Tuesday, according to a GNU statement.

Dabaiba stressed support for the efforts of the UN mission in Libya, praising the "positive role" of the UN envoy's initiatives aimed at resolving the Libyan crisis and supporting the holding of elections in accordance with fair and impartial laws.

The statement also pointed to "praise by members of the UN Security Council for the stability of the situation in Libya compared to previous years".

Bathily has held a series of intensive meetings and contacts in order to mobilize support for the political process and help parties agree on the constitutional and legal frameworks governing the electoral process in the last three days, meeting with House of Representatives Speaker Aguila Saleh, High Council of State President Muhammad Takala and High National Elections Commission Chairman Emad Al-Sayeh.
