The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) welcomed the completion of the reunification of the Central Bank of Libya on Sunday.

In a statement on its website, the mission praised the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, Siddiq Al-Kabir, and Deputy Governor Mari Muftah Rahil, for taking measures aimed at completing the process of reunifying the bank and their commitment to addressing the effects of the division on this national institution.

The mission also expressed the hope that the reunification of the Central Bank would help give new impetus to efforts to unify all political, security and military institutions in the country, in response to the long-standing aspirations of the Libyan people.

Earlier on Sunday, the announcement of "the return of the Central Bank as a unified sovereign institution" was announced at a meeting held by Al-Kabir, Rahil, with the directors of departments and advisors of the bank in Tripoli and Benghazi.
