The Red Crescent Society branch in Sabratha announced on Friday the recovery of a body off the city's beach, in cooperation with local police.

The Red Crescent said the unidentified body was transferred to a local hospital for legal procedures.

Several incidents of bodies washing up on Sabratha beaches have occured in 2023, the last of which was on July 6, when five migrant bodies were recovered by the Red Crescent.

On April 23, the organization also recovered the bodies of 17 migrants after a boat carrying them sank off the coast of the city.

In 2022, 11,412 migrants were recorded missing or dead during attempts to reach Europe from Libya, according to a report by the International Organization for Migration.
