Dabaiba congratulates Takala, says hopes High Council of State will align itself with the will of the Libyan people to hold elections

Prime Minister for Libya's interim Government of National Unity Abdulhamid Dabaiba, congratulated Mohammed Takala on winning the leadership of the High Council of State in the elections held on Sunday.

Dabaiba posted on X: "I congratulate Mr. Mohammed Takala for gaining the confidence of the members of the High Council of State in the elections for the presidency of the council, and I stress to him that the council play a role on side of the Libyan people's will to hold elections and end the transitional stages. Wishing him success in his duties as the head of the High Council of State."

Takala won the presidency of the High Council of State on Sunday, after obtaining 67 votes in the run-off with his rival Khaled Al-Mishri, who received 62 votes.

Takala was elected as a deputy to the General National Congress on July 7, 2012 before the name of the General National Congress was changed to the High Council of State in accordance with the Skhirat Agreement in 2015.

He chaired the Economic and Social Projects Development Committee in the Council, and participated in the National Dialogue Forum in Geneva 2021.
