The Deputy Prime Minister for Libya's parliament-appointed Government of National Stability (GNS), Salem Al-Zadma, revealed details of his contact with ousted Nigerien president Mohamed Bazoum, since the coup.
Al-Zadma said in a tweet that he was assured of the safety and health of Bazoum during a call on Tuesday.
He added that Bazoum "expressed his thanks and gratitude for the call, reassured him of his situation and his hope that Niger will soon overcome this ordeal, and that peace will prevail in both countries."
Niger reopened its land borders with Libya, Algeria, Burkina Faso, Mali and Chad, in conjunction with evacuations carried out by France and Italy on Tuesday. This came nearly a week after the new authorities shut them down following the removal of Bazoum.
