Alwasat TV (Wtv) reported on Saturday evening the release of former Finance Minister Faraj Boumatri after being detained for several days in Tripoli.

Al-Masar TV, which is close to the LNA General Command, also quoted the head of Zuwayya tribe Al-Senussi Al-Ahlaiq, as saying that Boumatri was released "after the intervention of Attorney General Siddiq Al-Sour."

The arrest and detention of Boumatri by the Internal Security Agency in Tripoli upon his arrival at Mitiga airport sparked widespread reactions inside Libya, accompanied by shutdowns of oil fields and the cutting off water supplies.

In an interview with Wtv on Friday, Al-Ahlaiq described Boumtari's detention in Tripoli as a "conspiracy" by the governor of the Central Bank of Libya, Siddiq Al-Kabir.

The head of the High Council of State, Khaled Al-Mishri, confirmed that the arrest of the former finance minister came against the background of his candidacy for the post of governor of the Central Bank of Libya.
