The incoming Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Libya, Aydar Aganin, praised the efforts made by the Presidential Council to achieve peace and stability in all parts of Libya on Monday.
His comments came during a meeting with Presidential Council leader Mohamed Menfi after presenting his credentials.
The council's media office said that during the meeting, Ambassador Aganin also conveyed "the greetings of Russian President Vladimir Putin".
For his part, Menfi stressed the depth of the bilateral relations between the two countries and his keenness on the contribution of Russia, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, in stabilizing the situation in Libya and achieving the dream of Libyans in holding simultaneous parliamentary and presidential elections, while looking forward to the success of the new ambassador in his duties during his tenure in Libya.
After presenting his credentials, the ambassador announced that Russia has fully restored its diplomatic presence in Libya and intends to revive its friendly ties with the country.
"We are now developing a full-fledged work and have in mind to establish contacts with the widest range of representatives of Libya. And it seemed to me that Libyans are also interested in communicating with us, hearing our assessments and point of view," Aganin said.
