The Chief of General Staff for Libya's interim Government of National Unity announced the arrival of two new Corrubia class naval boats at Tripoli Naval Base, delivered by Italy.
A statement said that this comes within the framework of Libyan-Italian cooperation and in the implementation of agreements and commitments between the two sides in supporting the Coast Guard and port security, and with the support and sponsorship of the European Union.
The Chief of Staff of Naval Forces, Major General Noureddine Al-Bouni, inspected the two boats on Sunday morning before they were put into service.
On March 17, Italian Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, said in an interview: “We are increasing assistance to the Libyan Coast Guard... We will hand them two more boats in the next few days in Messina so that he can prevent the departure of migrant boats” from the Libyan coast, according to the Italian news agency AKI.
