A Libyan plane carrying 14 tons of urgent medical aid arrived at the airport in Port Sudan, according to an announcement on Tuesday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Libya's interim Government of National Unity (GNU).

The ministry added that the shipment was provided by the Government of National Unity as part of "the framework of Libya's support for the brotherly Sudanese people and based on the brotherly and humanitarian responsibility in these difficult circumstances that it is going through."

The conflict, which has been going on since April 15 between the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese army, has killed more than 2,000 people, according to the latest figures from the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project, but the actual numbers may be much higher, according to other relief agencies and international organizations.

Last May, GNU Foreign Minister Najla Mangoush confirmed Libya's readiness to support mediation efforts between the conflicting parties in Sudan, as well as support humanitarian efforts that seek to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people.
