Pakistan says working with Libyan and Italian authorities to return bodies of dead from migrant boat crashes

The spokesperson for Pakistan's Foreign Office, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, announced that its embassies in Tripoli and Rome are actively working with authorities in both countries to take care of survivors and transfer the remains of the dead after two migrant boats sank in the last week.

59 people died, including children, when a wooden sailing boat carrying migrants crashed against rocks on the southern Italian coast early on Sunday, 20 victims were from Pakistan.

Seven other Pakistani nationals drowned off the coast of Benghazi in a separate incident according to Pakistan's Press Agency.

Baloch said bodies from both accidents would be transported to Pakistan with the support of local authorities and the International Committee of the Red Cross.

She said the embassy and Foreign Affairs Ministry has been in contact with the families of the deceased.
