The mayor of the Sebha municipality, Shawish Abdel Salam Gherbal, has died in Tunisia after a struggle with illness, according to the Sebha Security Directorate on Saturday. 

In a statement, the directorate said: “With a great deal of sadness and with hearts filled with faith in God’s will and destiny, the security director of Sebha, Osama Owaidan, and all the employees of the directorate, extend their sincere condolences and sympathy to the family of Abdel Salam Gherbal.”

Ghebral be suffering from illness shortly after assuming the position of mayor on January 23, 2020, traveling to Italy and Tunisia for treatment.

Ibrahim Hamid Al-Shawish assumed the position of Acting Mayor while Ghebral was away.
