The Foreign Affairs Committee of the Libyan Parliament condemned the burning of the Quran in front of the Turkish embassy in Stockholm, stressing that this act is very insulting hate crime and is not considered freedom of expression, as it purposefully provokes the feelings of Muslims everywhere.

In a statement, the committee expressed its "deep dissatisfaction with the Swedish government's failure to take deterrent measures regarding the disgraceful incident," and called on "the Swedish ambassador to Libya to explain her government's position regarding the incident."

The committee stressed that "the Swedish government's lax position threatens the relations between the two countries and Sweden's interests in the region because this is considered lenient with the violation of the principle of respect for religions and coexistence between different peoples and cultures."

This response comes after similar statements from Libya's parralell governments.
