The head of Libya's interim Government of National Unity, Abdulhamid Dabaiba, met on Thursday, with CIA Director William Burns, accompanied by the Charge d'affaires at the US embassy in Tripoli.

Dabaiba's media office said that the meeting was held at the Prime Minister's Office in Tripoli and discussed "economic and security cooperation between the United States and Libya."

It added that Burns stressed during the meeting "the need to develop economic and security cooperation between the two countries, praising the state of stability and growth witnessed by Libya during the recent period."

The meeting was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs Najla Mangoush, General Intelligence Service head Hussein Al-Aeb and Cabinet Affairs Minister Adel Jumaa.

This is the first visit by Burns to Libya since he assumed the director position in March 2021
