Libya's Presidential Council renewed its call for the House of Representatives and the High Council of State "to assume their national responsibilities, in order to unify efforts and overcome the difficulties facing the national consensus, that all the Libyan people are waiting for, to hold parliamentary and presidential elections as soon as possible."

This came in a statement in response to the High Council of State's announcement that it could not participate in the meeting called for by the Presidential Council in Ghadames on January 11.

"We were informed today that the High Council of State could not participate in this supposed meeting without explaining the reasons for that, despite welcoming the invitation," the Presidential Council said in a statement.

The Presidential Council stated that its initiative aims to “create a suitable climate for taking steps leading to general elections, according to a consensual constitutional basis and a consensual election law by the House of Representatives and the High Council of State.”
