A number of citizens demonstrated in the streets of the city of Zintan on Saturday afternoon, burning tires in protest against the deterioration of services and poor living conditions.

Users on social media circulated video clips of burning car tires and the rise of thick smoke from them, while passing cars tried to avoid these fumes, causing severe crowding.

The Minister of Local Government and Minister of Interior for Libya's Government of National Unity, Badr El-Din Toumi, visited Zintan on Friday and met with members of the Municipal Council.

Toumi held a press conference, in which he stressed the “dangerousness” of assaulting police members, warning: “It will be an iron fist for anyone who attacks any member of the police force because that is a prejudice to the prestige and position of the state.”
