The Turkish Ministry of Defense confirmed the launch of training courses for a number of Libyan and Somali naval forces in Izmir, southwest Turkey.

On June 8, Government of National Unit Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dabaiba met with Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar, in Izmir, where they discussed cooperation in the field of training.

Dabaiba attended military exercises hosted by Turkey at the time, with the participation of 25 countries, including Libya.

He was accompanied on the visit by chiefs of staff of the air, naval and ground forces, commanders of military regions and a number of department directors at the Ministry of Defense.

A technical meeting was held between Dabaiba and Akar on the sidelines of the visit to focus on "supporting training and development programs for the Libyan army and discussing cooperation between the two countries."

Last May, a contract was signed with Turkish Aerospace Industries to supply the Libyan Air Force with a number of modern training aircraft.
