The 444th Combat Brigade of the Government of National Unity announced on Monday the liberation of 110 kidnapped Bangladeshi nationals who had been subjected to torture and extortion.

In a statement, the brigade said it performed a "quick strike operation" to liberate the kidnapped from a gang made up of nine Bangladeshi nationals who received support from two Libyan citizens.

It stated that the gang was luring its victims to several locations and then imprisoned them, demanding that their families and relatives in Bangladesh pay sums of money amounting to 25,000 dinars in exchange for the release of each individual.

The brigade confirmed that legal measures have been taken against perpetrators, pointing out that "the army's detachments continue to fulfill their duties to support each oppressed and vulnerable person regardless of their nationality or religion."
