Local sources told Alwasat on Monday, that a force affiliated with the Libyan National Army's (LNA) General Command prevented the convening of a conference by political and civil society institutions in the Fezzan region.

The sources indicated that a raid occured at the Qamar Desert Resort in the municipality of Al-Ghurayfa and that pictures of Marshal Khalifa Haftar were placed at the location after it was surrounded.

An intial conference was put together in January with participating groups calling for focus on implementing elections with integrity as a solution for ending the transitional stage and achieving stability.

The sources explained that this second conference came after "the UN mission and the legislative authorities ignored the requirements of the people of Fezzan."

Participants previously issued a statement calling for the formation of a government that represents a region, noting that “these outcomes should not be interpreted as a call for division but rather a demand for a government that represents the south, like the east and west.”
