Tunisian Foreign Minister Othman Jerandi affirmed his country's confidence in Libyan abilities to “overcome the current situation and reach the necessary consensus to ensure the best conditions for organizing successful elections, based on the belief that the solution in Libya can only be attained by Libyan leadership.”

This came during Jerandi's meeting with Republic of Congo Foreign Minister, Jean-Claude Gakosso, accompanied by a delegation from the African Union.

Jerandi stressed the importance of the United Nations, the African Union and neighboring countries in “efforts to bridge the gap between the brothers in Libya and help them provide the appropriate conditions for organizing these elections as soon as possible”.

He stressed Tunisia’s keenness to continue consultation and coordination with the African Union at this “important stage.”

In turn, Foreign Minister Gakosso whose country currently chairs the African Union High-Level Committee on Libya, indicated that his visit to Tunisia falls within the framework of “consultation and coordination with Tunisia due to his confidence in its ability to effectively contribute to assisting the Libyan parties.”
