Government of National Stability Prime Minister Fathi Bashagha said that the Bunyan Al-Marsous operation represents a “model of national unity,” warning of the danger of conflict and stressing the importance of the unity of Libyans as “the most powerful weapon to confront terrorism.”

In a series of tweets, Bashagha wrote: “Operation Al-Bunyan Al-Marsous represents an important model for national unity. Where the blood of all Libyans drenched the city of Sirte to liberate it from terrorism and the spirit of peace ran through the veins of the country thanks to the sacrifices of the heroic men of Al-Bunyan.”

He added: “Whenever we quarrel, terrorism infiltrates between us and the sovereignty of our state is robbed. The unity of Libyans is the most powerful weapon to confront terrorism and extremists, and with our unity we gain our pride and dignity.” He praised the “support” of the United States of America and the United Kingdom for Operation Al-Bunyan Al-Marsous.

On May 5, 2016, the previous Government of National Accord launched the Bunyan Al-Marsous operation to eliminate the ISIS terrorist organization in Sirte and central Libya. The operation lasted for seven months and ended on December 6 of the same year with the elimination of the organization.
