Egyptair will start operating direct flights between Cairo and Benghazi starting next Monday, according to the company's president, Amr Abou el-Enein.

El-Enein said that Egyptair pays special attention to points of strategic importance, including the city of Benghazi, according to a statement carried by the Al-Ahram newspaper on Wednesday.

He pointed out the importance of operating these flights, due to the presence of many Egyptians residing and working in Libya and to enhance trade exchange between the countries.

The company will operate its Boeing B737-800 aircraft on those flights.

It is noteworthy that Egyptair has suspended flights to Libya since 2014.

Afriqiyah Airways and Libyan Airlines already have flights from Tripoli's Mitiga and Benghazi's Benina International Airports to Cairo.
