The spokesman for Libyan National Army's (LNA) General Command, Major General Ahmed Al-Mismari, denied media rumors that Marshal Khalifa Haftar had recently visited Moscow or intended to send soldiers to fight along with Russian forces in Ukraine.
Al-Mismari added in a press conference on Wednesday that "this is not logical talk, its purpose is to distort the Libyan Arab Armed Forces", accusing the media of "targeting the Libyan army for a long time."
He continued, "we do not stand with Russia or Ukraine, we are in a war against terrorism".
Al-Mismari then showed examples of false reporting by news organizations and called on the media to investigate accuracy and derive news from original sources.
Al-Mismari affirmed that the LNA's leadership is with the international community in combating terrorism and transnational organized crime.
Regarding the leadership’s position on the war in Ukraine, Al-Mismari said, “this is a political question and the one responsible for answering this question is the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the government appointed by the House of Representatives, Hafed Gaddur.”
