Libyan Public Prosecutor Siddiq Al-Sur arrived in Brussels on Tuesday morning, where he is currently meeting with his Belgian counterpart.

This meeting comes against the background of the current controversy over the status of frozen Libyan assets in Belgian banks and the verification of their fate.

The visit by Al-Sur to Brussels comes as part of a tour of European capitals, as part of an effort to gain control of billions in frozen Libyan money.

A company linked to the Belgian Prince Laurent, brother of King Philip, wants to seize the assets of the Libyan Investment Authority in Belgium, as compensation for a failed forestation project in Libya's desert. The Prime Minister of Libya's interim Government of National Unity, Abdulhamid Dabaiba, called the action “unacceptable.”

Al-Sur previously addressed his Belgian counterpart that these funds belong to investments, demanding that the profits be transferred to the Libyan state accounts in a country other than Libya and Belgium, “to be safe from any looting.”
