Twenty-two family members of ISIS fighters killed in Libya years ago and held in detention centres were deported by authorities in Tripoli in an agreement with their Nigerian counterparts.

Nigerian foreign ministry officials received the individuals on Saturday night, according to a statement saying “the stranded Nigerians include the 22 family members of suspected former members of ISIS that were killed in Libya as well as their children,” according to the Daily Trust newspaper. The relatives, flown to the nation’s capital, Abuja, were among the 101 stranded Nigerians in Libya.

The file of ISIS children and wives in Libya has not yet been closed due to political and legal complications as some African countries refuse to recognize the fact that they are fighting in the ranks of the terrorist organization.

As of now, 16 Senegalese nationals, including 5 women and 11 children, have been held in Libyan prisons since 2014, with their families demanding that the country's authorities use its diplomacy to repatriate them. There are also Tunisian nationals and their children being held.
