Iraqi Foreign Minister says seeking to re-open embassy in Tripoli

Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein confirmed his country's desire to reopen its embassy in Tripoli during a meeting on Friday with Libyan Foreign Minister Najla Al-Mangoush.

"Libya is ready to provide assistance and facilities for the return of the Iraqi Embassy in Tripoli, and to overcome all difficulties in this regard," Al-Mangoush said.

Hussein stressed the need for the embassy to play its role in "activating political and diplomatic work in the interests of the two brotherly countries, as well as providing consular services and work to the Iraqi community residing in Libya," according to a statement.

The two ministers met on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomatic Forum in Turkey and discussed bilateral relations between the countries and ways to increase joint cooperation.

The Iraqi minister note that his country supports "international efforts to restore security, stability in Libya and the adoption of a political option that meets the aspirations of the Libyan people."
