Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry, on Sunday, called for a political solution to the conflict in Libya away from foreign interference, during a joint conference meeting held in the Jordanian capital Amman.
Safadi said: "We are all concerned about the fate that things are heading towards, acclimating the Libyan crisis will make things more difficult and more complicated, and therefore we support all efforts aimed at reaching a political solution that preserves the unity and cohesion of Libya and prevents Libya from becoming an arena for regional conflicts.
He added: "We support all UN resolutions related to reaching a political settlement made by Libyans and we supported the outputs of the Berlin Conference and the Cairo Declaration, and we continue to coordinate with our brothers in a manner that preserves Libya's security and Egypt's security and prevents the entire region from suffering the consequences of the deterioration of matters in Libya."
For his part, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry affirmed that "the situation in Libya, its developments, external interventions and the pursuit of extremist militias and export of extremist foreign fighters to this square poses a serious threat to Egyptian national security and Arab national security."
Shoukry added that Egypt “seeks to push towards a political solution and find a Libyan-Libyan consensus that leads to preserving the unity, stability, security and safety of Libyan lands and achieving the will of the Libyan people away from the interference of extremist militias and external parties that seek only to destabilize and undermine the capabilities of the brotherly Libyan people.”
Shuokry stressed that "Egypt will continue to monitor these situations seriously and take decisive measures, which will secure Egypt and Arab national security."
