NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the alliance supports the implementation of the UN arms embargo on Libya.
He added, during the press conference after the meeting of NATO defense ministers, on Thursday: "We not only support the implementation of the arms embargo, but also support the United Nations efforts to find a peaceful, negotiated solution to the conflict."
During the same conference, Stoltenberg announced that an investigation had been opened into the incident between French and Turkish ships explaining that "NATO military authorities will investigate with the aim of clarifying the situation," according to Agence France-Presse.
On Wednesday, the French Ministry of Defense announced that a French ship participating in a NATO mission in the Mediterranean was recently subjected to a "very aggressive" action by Turkish boats, denouncing the incident as "very dangerous" especially as Ankara is a partner in the alliance.
