The Libyan Red Crescent's Ghat branch said 600 people had been accommodated in the displaced persons' camp of Asma bint Abi Bakr school because of floods that swept entire districts and neighborhoods in the southwestern city.
The Red Crescent said in a statement that the number of displaced people is increasing and some families are still trapped by the floods, adding that 45 families have been evacuated to the camp/
The Mayor of Ghat, Qomani Saleh said earlier that the floods that have swept the city since the beginning of Monday "are increasing and all areas of the municipality have been flooded."
He appealed to the municipalities of the southern region to provide urgent support and send specialized vehicles to drain water in the city areas .
