Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil said on Monday that relations between Lebanon and Libya would not be resolved until the truth about what happened to Musa al-Sadr and his companions is clarified.

According to the Lebanese newspaper The Daily Star Bassil's remarks came to his Libyan counterpart Mohammed Siyala during their meeting in Brussels on the sidelines of the fifth session of the Arab-European ministerial meeting.

The two ministers agreed to follow up the efforts of theGovernment of National Reconciliation to investigate the disappearance of Sadr.

Libya decided to cancel its participation in the Arab Economic Summit last month after some members of the Amal movement led by Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri desecrated the Libyan flag and insulted the Libyan people.

The Shiite community in Lebanon holds Gaddafi responsible for the disappearance of Musa al-Sadr, who was last seen in Libya on August 31, 1978 after arriving with his two companions on an official invitation on August 25. But the former Libyan regime denied the charge, stressing that the three left Tripoli to Italy. The latter denied entry into its territory. The Lebanese judiciary issued an arrest warrant against Muammar Gaddafi, the number two man in the regime Abdul Salam Galoud and a number of other officials, for the "kidnapping" of al-Sadr.
