Ghat food poisioning cases rise to 500 in three weeks

The director of medical affairs at Ghat General Hospital, Abdul Ghani Saeed, said that food poisonings in the region are "increasing" for the third week, indicating that the cases reached 500 on Wednesday.

"The crisis has entered the third week and cases of poisoning are increasing. However, the Ministry of Health in the Government of National Accord has not responded seriously," Saeed said.

He explained that the cases had symptoms of "diarrhea, vomitingm colic and some accompanied by high temperatures, but so far did not identify the real reasons behind the poisonings," adding "we have several possibilities, including contaminated drinking water or Samonella."

So far, two deaths have been reported, a six month old infant and a four year old child.
