Mohamed Sharaf, Director of the UNESCO Office for the Maghreb Region, announced the imminent launch of a project titled “Strengthening Critical Infrastructure and Technology” in partnership with the General Authority for Scientific Research, with the aim of supporting scientific research capabilities and developing Libya’s knowledge and technological infrastructure.
Sharaf emphasized that the organization’s return to operate from within Libya represents a natural and necessary step that reflects the depth of historical relations and mutual cooperation, according to his remarks at the ceremony announcing the opening of the organization’s office in Libya on Thursday.
UNESCO is dedicated to promoting education, science, and culture; protecting cultural and natural heritage; supporting freedom of expression; and building societies based on knowledge and sustainable development.
The event was attended by the head of the Government of National Unity, Abdulhamid Dabaiba, and the Minister of Education and Chairman of the National Committee for Education, Culture, and Science, Mohamed Al-Qariou, along with a number of government ministers, officials, and representatives of UNESCO.
