The Moon Sighting and Timing Committee of the High Ifta Committee of the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs in the government appointed by the House of Representatives, led by Osama Hammad, announced on Wednesday that the crescent moon of Ramadan for the year 1447 AH had been sighted, confirming that tomorrow, Thursday, February 19, 2026, is the first day of the holy month.
The committee said in an official statement regarding the sighting of the crescent moon of Ramadan that “the crescent moon was sighted tonight,” noting that Thursday is the first day of the blessed month of Ramadan for the year 1447 AH.
At the end of its statement, it expressed its prayer that God would grant all Libyans the month of Ramadan, help them to fast and pray, accept their prayers, unite them in truth, and reconcile them with one another.
It is noteworthy that today, Wednesday, corresponds to 29 Sha'ban 1447 AH, according to the calculations of the “Fatwa Committee” of the government appointed by the House of Representatives.
Yesterday, Tuesday, Dar al-Ifta in Tripoli announced that tomorrow, Thursday, is the first day of the blessed month of Ramadan for the year 1447 AH, after the crescent moon could not be seen on Tuesday evening in Libyan cities and regions.
Several Arab countries began fasting for Ramadan on Wednesday, while other Islamic countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei, announced that the first day of Ramadan would be Thursday, as the crescent moon was not sighted.
