Member states at the 52nd meeting of the United Nations World Tourism Organization's Regional Commission for the Middle East, held in Kuwait, unanimously voted to select Libya to host the 53rd meeting of the Commission, in a move that reflects Libya's return to regional and international tourism platforms.
The meeting was attended by the ministers of tourism of the member states, along with the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jasem Mohamed Al-Budaiwi, and representatives of the United Nations World Tourism Organization, where participants discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation and develop the tourism sector in the region.
The Government of National Unity (GNU) explained that Libya's right to host the event was the culmination of diplomatic and technical efforts led by the Libyan delegation during the meetings, which showcased the country's readiness to host the event, plans to develop tourism infrastructure, and the ministry's vision to strengthen regional partnerships and support investment in this vital sector.
For his part, GNU Tourism Minister Nasr al-Din al-Fizani, affirmed that the unanimous vote reflects growing international confidence in Libya and strengthens its regional and international presence, amid positive signs of recovery in the tourism sector.
