UK Ambassador Martin Reynolds visits historic sites in eastern Libya

The British Ambassador to Libya, Martin Reynolds, visited the tomb of Omar al-Mukhtar in Benghazi and the Temple of Zeus in Cyrene, expressing his admiration for Libya's rich culture and ancient history.

Reynolds wrote on X: "Hello from the of heart of Cyrenaica! Libya’s rich culture & history never fail to amaze me! I had a wonderful time visiting the Temple of Zeus with my team after a busy day of meetings!"

In a separate post, Reynolds wrote: "Such an honour to visit Sheikh Omar Almokhtar’s Mausoleum in Benghazi, where I have laid a wreath of flowers to pay my respects and recognise the bravery of this historic Libyan hero."

On Wednesday, the British ambassador visited the Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery in Benghazi to pay his respects and show appreciation for all the lives lost in conflict.

Reynold stresses to Aguila Saleh the importance of unifying Libya's institutions

During his visit, Reynolds also met with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, to discuss “the importance of unifying and protecting Libyan state institutions, including the High National Elections Commission.”

The ambassador stressed the need for all parties concerned to participate constructively in the roadmap led by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya to resolve the political crisis.
