The Tourist Police and Antiquities Protection Agency announced that it had secured tourist groups from Russia, China, and Ireland during their visit to the ancient city of Leptis Magna, as part of its efforts to protect historical sites and secure tourist delegations.

The agency explained that members of the Tourist Police and Antiquities Protection Office in Leptis Magna, affiliated with the Marqab branch, were responsible for securing the visit of tourist groups from Russia, China, and Ireland, where the tour was organized within the ancient city to ensure the safety of visitors and the preservation of historical monuments.

It noted that this step comes within the framework of its role in accompanying tourist delegations and enhancing the security of archaeological sites, in addition to highlighting Libya's cultural side and supporting its presence on the global tourism map.

The Tourist Police and Antiquities Protection Agency emphasized that securing international tourist groups is one of its primary tasks to protect cultural heritage and prevent any tampering with archaeological sites, thereby contributing to promoting Libya's image as a safe tourist destination rich in cultural heritage.

The status of the ancient city

The city of Leptis Magna is one of the most prominent and important historical cities in Libya. Located on the western coast of the country, east of the city of Khoms, its roots date back to the Phoenician era before reaching its peak during the Roman era, especially during the reign of Emperor Septimius Severus, who was born in it. During his reign, the city witnessed a widespread urban renaissance.

It boasts a unique collection of archaeological sites, including a Roman theater, the Arch of Septimius Severus, imperial baths, and an ancient port.
