The National Cornea Transplant Authority confirmed the resumption of the “1,000 Corneas” campaign with a series of surgeries conducted in collaboration with the Sorman Teaching Hospital. In a statement issued on Monday, the Authority explained that the current phase of the campaign includes 60 cornea transplants to be performed in the cities of Tripoli and Surman.
Cornea transplants to be performed in other Libyan cities in due course
Work continues on preparing waiting lists that include cases from various Libyan cities, in preparation for performing the surgeries sequentially according to the plan approved by the Authority. Performing corneal transplant surgeries helps reduce travel for treatment and supports efforts to localize treatment within Libya.
In other medical news, Al-Hadba Al-Khadra General Hospital announced last week the successful implantation of a modern pacemaker to regulate the heartbeat of a patient suffering from bradycardia—a first in Libya.
