The Fezzan Municipalities Council expressed its rejection of a visit by Minister of Health, Dr. Ali Al-Zanati, to the southern region on Saturday, noting “the minister’s lack of cooperation with the mayors in the south and health facilities in the region.”
In a statement reviewed by Alwasat, the council noted “the lack of doctors, the minister’s failure to pay the overdue salaries of medical personnel and administrators, and his failure to pay the accumulated and owed debts on sector projects in the region."
The statement also highlighted "not providing scorpion vaccines, which killed many children and adults in the area, not preparing maintenance centers with the necessary and sufficient equipment, and not coordinating with municipalities on the date of the current visit."
The southern region suffers from many health sector issues, the last of which also included the workers of its Medical Supply Authority rejecting a Government of National Unity decision regarding a change to its board of directors.
