Libya's Audit Bureau and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) signed a project initiation document, marking the launch of joint projects stemming from the partnership agreement between the two parties, with the aim of strengthening institutional cooperation, supporting reform and good governance efforts, and contributing to the achievement of the sustainable development goals.

The document was signed during a meeting held at the Audit Bureau’s headquarters, bringing together the head of the partnership team between the Audit Bureau and the UNDP, Idris Ataf, and the UNDP Resident Representative in Libya, Sophie Kemkhadze, in the presence of members of the partnership team from the Audit Bureau and UNDP officials, according to a statement published by the Bureau on its Facebook page.

The statement explained that the project document includes a number of areas of cooperation, including promoting transparency and combating corruption, spatial development, and implementing sustainability and performance audit programs in the renewable energy and water security sectors, thereby supporting Libya’s efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

It added that the planned programs are based on the methodology of the Working Group on Environmental Auditing of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI), and in accordance with the International Standards on Auditing and Assurance (ISSAI), in addition to providing technical support and capacity-building to the Audit Bureau to enhance its operational efficiency and develop its institutional capabilities.

The Audit Bureau noted that the signing of the document comes within the framework of implementing the partnership agreement with the UNDP and translating its objectives into practical programs and projects that contribute to supporting public institutions, promoting the principles of transparency and accountability, and establishing best audit practices in accordance with international standards.
