The Second Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Musbah Douma held an expanded meeting on Sunday with a select group of academics, financial experts, and economists to review and evaluate the financial and tax laws currently in effect in Libya.
The meeting, held at the House of Representatives’ headquarters in Benghazi, was attended by Dr. Khaled al-Nakhat, Dr. Amra’aj Ghaith, Najwa al-Agouri, Jumaa al-Hassi, Ali Saad al-Bardah, and Ibrahim Balkhir. Abdulmoneim Balcour, a member of the House of Representatives’ Finance Committee, also participated via Zoom.
Assessing the Economic Reality and Developing the Legislative and Financial Environment
House of Representatives spokesperson Abdullah Bliheg stated that the meeting is part of a series of sessions sponsored by Douma aimed at assessing the economic reality and developing the country’s legislative and financial environment.
Bliheg explained that the “strategic meeting” held by Douma with national experts focused on reviewing and evaluating the country’s current financial and tax laws, as well as identifying shortcomings and legislative gaps that hinder practical implementation.
Amending and Modernizing Financial and Tax Laws
He added that attendees discussed mechanisms to amend and update these laws, ensuring that current loopholes are addressed and contributing to the drafting of flexible laws that adapt to rapid economic changes and keep pace with the technological shifts and modern digital systems currently transforming the financial sector both globally and locally.
At the conclusion of the meeting, attendees affirmed their commitment to continued coordination and holding intensive periodic meetings to draft the final legislative proposals and present them to the House of Representatives, in a manner that serves the interests of the national economy and achieves financial stability for the state.
